The aim of the workshop is to give an overall picture of the state of contemporary Hungarian literature. It also aims to be a forum where problems of translation and interpretation are discussed both on the practical and the theoretical level, and where translators can meet authors in person. We also hope to give a comprehensive picture of Hungarian intellectual life, with special emphasis on contemporary literature, and with an outlook on the past and the traditions of Hungarian literature. A number of outstanding poets, writers, critics, translators and literary historians will hold lectures, seminars, readings and talks. The workshop will also be a scene of in-depth professional work.

 

The workshop will take place between 20–30 June 2008, in a 19th century manor house in Nagykovácsi, close to Budapest. Guests will include Aaron Bloom, Endre Balogh, Imre Barna, Éva Bánki, Csaba Báthori, Anita Benyovszky Tóth, Pál Békés, Kornélia Faragó, Ágnes Gergely, Balázs Györe, Ákos Győrffy, Lajos Grendel, Csaba Károlyi, Dóra Károlyi, Ottó Kiss, Ernő Kulcsár Szabó, János Lackfi, Andrea Lovász, Géza Morcsányi, Eszter Orbán, Csilla Sándor, György Szakmány, György Szerbhorváth, Ferenc Szijj, Péter Urfi. The workshops will be conducted by András Imreh, Péter Rácz and Anna Szabó T.

The entry fee for the workshop is a symbolic 7,000 HUF (approx. 28 Euro), including full board and accommodation.
